Understand

How does the insulation work?

Insulation acts as a protective barrier for your home against the ingress and egress of hot and cold air. By properly insulating your foundation, walls, and roof, you increase the life of your building, improve air quality and reduce your heating/cooling energy costs.

That’s why it’s so important to choose the right type of insulation for each room in your home. A well-insulated home not only increases air quality but also significantly reduces your energy costs by up to 25%! As you can see in the illustration, the place where the most energy is lost is in your roof (up to 30% of energy loss).

At DuraClim we offer three types of insulation:

Sprayed polyurethane

Ideal for foundations and roofs.

Cellulose Insulation

Ecological solution Ideal for walls and attics.

Fiberglass wool insulation

Ideal for floors, walls and attic.

"I had my entire house insulated this summer by DuraClim and my air conditioning consumption went from $168 per month to $127 per month. Honestly, I'm surprised at the results. I recommend them...for me it was quick and I saw a good improvement. 👍🏼 "

The different insulation options

DuraClim offers three types of insulation

Spray polyurethane is one of the best performing insulation products available. It adheres to virtually any surface such as the concrete foundation in your basement, the ceiling in your attic or the exterior walls of your home. As a spray-on product, spray polyurethane easily fits into even the most difficult to reach places. Once sprayed, it swells to form a layer of insulation that seals out moisture, mold and mildew. Spray polyurethane is also an environmentally friendly solution made from recycled plastics.

  • Ideal for insulating foundations and roofs
  • Energy saving
  • Adheres easily to different types of surfaces
  • Ecological
  • Thermal insulation, air barrier and vapor barrier
  • Effective against allergens and dust

Cellulose is both an ecological and efficient insulator, both thermally and acoustically. This type of insulation is most often used to insulate the attic (the space between your attic floor and the roof).

It is important to understand that air is the enemy of energy loss. Being composed of small particles, blown cellulose easily infiltrates all around the plumbing, for example, and helps eliminate air holes. Blown cellulose is the ideal insulation to cover your attic and reduce energy losses. In addition to having good thermal insulating properties, cellulose is also an excellent sound barrier. It can absorb frequencies of up to 2,000 Hz, which is ideal for blocking outside sounds. It is also an economical and ecological solution, since it is made from 85% recycled newspaper, which gives it its slightly gray color.

  • Ideal for walls and attics
  • Ecological (up to 85% paper)
  • Thermal insulation
  • Acoustic insulator
  • Best quality/price
  • Energy saving

Blown-in wool, commonly known as blown-in fiberglass insulation, is a highly effective way to insulate floors, ceilings or attics (where it is most often used). Because it is virtually dust-free, it is a quick and easy product to install. Because it is sprayed on, it is easy to penetrate and insulate areas that would otherwise be more difficult to insulate with wool “insulation boards”. It is an excellent thermal solution and reduces sound transmission. It is also a durable product that greatly reduces energy loss.

  • Ideal for walls and attic
  • Thermal insulation
  • Acoustic insulator
  • Resistant to humidity and therefore prevents mold and mildew
  • Energy saving
  • Fast installation
  • Provides a clean result during application

Frequently asked questions

Contrary to what many people may think, insulation is not only good for keeping you warm. Insulation also keeps you cool in the summer! Insulation acts as a protective barrier that slows the inflow of warm air and the outflow of cold air. This simple change keeps the house cooler and reduces your energy consumption.

Yes, the majority of DuraClim’s projects involve changing the old insulation for new, better-performing insulation.

The lifespan varies with each type of insulation, but it is generally time to change your insulation every 12-15 years. It is also recommended to change the insulation if you have had water infiltration or if the insulation has been eaten by rodents.

R represents the resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating capacity and resistance to heat flow. Depending on where you live and the area of your home you are insulating, different R-values are recommended. For example, a colder climate requires higher R-values than a milder, more temperate climate. In some applications, R-values can be added together for increased thermal resistance.
